Lesufi in Europe to learn about hi-tech street lights to help fight Gauteng crime

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is taking steps to combat crime in the province.

According to IOL, he is in Europe studying advanced street lights that incorporate CCTVs, drone docking stations, loudspeakers for emergency evacuation, e-panic buttons, and electric car charging stations, among other features.

Lesufi posted a video on Twitter showcasing a 5G street light pole with various functions. One Twitter user questioned Lesufi’s efforts, to which Lesufi replied that he is studying future crime-stopping gadgets and devices.

During the State of the Province Address in February, Lesufi announced plans to increase the budget for fighting crime and connect various locations with hi-tech face and car recognition CCTVs, e-panic buttons, and a new state-of-the-art Integrated Command Centre.

However, Lesufi’s spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga, declined to provide further information on the project or the premier’s location.
