As Women’s Month draws to an end, Natasha Anderson, the driving force behind South Africa’s Women in Tech series, emphasised the pivotal role of women in the technology sector during the Women in Tech Breakfast Series held at Old Mutual Place, Sandton.

Anderson highlighted that women are increasingly making significant strides, offering unique perspectives and innovative solutions that are reshaping the tech landscape.

“For too long, women have been marginalised in the tech industry, but we are gradually changing that narrative,” Anderson stated.

“Women have much to contribute in this space, and our involvement is crucial for the future of technology.”

Anderson underscored the distinctive innovation that women bring, noting their empathetic approach to problem-solving and consideration of broader societal impacts.

Her own journey from being discouraged in high school from pursuing a tech career to becoming the CEO of ForgeX, a company dedicated to SMME development, exemplifies the transformative potential of technology for women.

“Technology empowered me to support my family and inspire other women to do the same,” Anderson remarked.

She urged South Africa to seize the opportunity to upskill young people, particularly women, to address the nation’s high unemployment rate effectively.

“The demand for digital skills is burgeoning, and excluding women from this growth is not only detrimental to them but also to our entire economy,” she emphasised.

Anderson called for recognising and leveraging women’s natural strengths in leadership, including their capacity for dialogue and ability to foster collaboration, as essential drivers of future technological innovation.
