Lauren Dickason trial

The Lauren Dickason trial is underway in New Zealand, and shocking details have emerged regarding her internet searches before the tragic incident. According to reports from New Zealand news outlets Stuff and the Herald, Dickason had searched for “drugs to overdose kids” on Google, raising disturbing concerns. TimesLive reports that the former Pretoria doctor stands accused of strangling her three children, Liané, six, and the twins Karla and Maya, two, in Timaru on September 16, 2021.

During the trial, evidence revealed that Dickason’s internet searches, including terms like “Lethal dosage alprazolam in children” and “Ambien lethal dose,” were recovered by the police after she initially deleted them. The authorities uncovered these chilling searches, shedding light on her state of mind leading up to the tragic event.

Apart from the concerning internet searches, her cellphone messages also offered insight into her mental health challenges, the stress she experienced during the Covid-19 lockdown, and the process of selling their home before their relocation. In one message, she expressed immense fear about her situation.

In other messages, she revealed her coping struggle and fluctuating emotions. While she described happy moments with her children, she also felt like a slave to them and believed they favoured her husband, Graham.

Additional evidence presented during the trial included a letter from Dickason’s psychiatrist in South Africa, which disclosed her ongoing battle with major depressive disorder. The letter, addressed to New Zealand immigration, assured that she had never posed a threat to herself or others. It stated that she had been doing well on prescribed medication. It recommended that she continue with treatment and follow up with a local doctor after relocating to New Zealand. However, the court heard that she had discontinued her medication.

The trial has provided a chilling glimpse into the circumstances surrounding the tragic deaths of Liané, Karla, and Maya as the court seeks to understand the complex factors that led to this devastating event.
