The aftermath of the Krugersdorp gang rape continues to cast a shadow over the community, with survivors of the horrific incident still seeking justice while grappling with ongoing safety concerns.

As per EWN, in July of the previous year, a group of women filming a music video at the North Sands dump in Krugersdorp fell victim to a terrifying attack. Blanket-clad assailants assaulted and robbed these women, a shocking event that exposed the vulnerability of residents to criminal elements.

Police initially arrested 14 suspects believed to be responsible for the crimes, but the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) later dropped the charges due to DNA evidence inconsistencies. This frustrating setback has left survivors and their pursuit of justice at a crossroads.

Adding to the chilling narrative is the revelation that the same zama zamas involved in the mine attack allegedly sexually assaulted two women from the nearby Plastic View informal settlement, underscoring the grave danger posed by these criminals.
