Two Men Held in Custody for Murder of Beloved Soweto Doctor, Michael Isabelle

The two main accused, Mr Gordan Matwabu Munyirwa, 50, and Mr Tebogo Thothwe, 48, who appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, were charged with the crime of murdering a much-loved Soweto doctor, Dr Michael Isabelle. In this case, the two suspects have been detained and charged with the killing of the medical practitioner known as “the people’s doctor” in Mandela township. Dr. Michael Isabelle, one of the most prominent doctors in Soweto, was shot and murdered in Dobsonville, Soweto, on February 27, an incident that reverberated throughout the community, as per IOL.

“Dr. Michael Isabelle was shot at his clinic in Dobsonville on February 26 when the two men came with their companion who alleged that he urgently needed medical attention,” said the provincial spokesperson of the NPA, Ms. Phindi Mjonondwane. “When they finally reached the reception area, the attackers were said to have attacked Isabel, and a firefight became inevitable. One of the attackers was shot and is said to have succumbed to the injuries later.”

The attackers made good their escape using a motor car belonging to the Doctor’s receptionist. The remains of the motor vehicle were later found in Alexandra. The SAPS severe and violent crimes, murder and robbery unit, who were deployed on March 21, captured the suspects and charged them with two counts of murder, four of robbery with aggravating circumstances, malicious damage to property, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice, their attorney has stated.

Consequently, the case was rescheduled to April 2 to continue the investigation. In another incident, which happened last month, the iol had the report of the three suspects, Siyabonga Kekane, 20, Nkateko Tshidzumba, 25, and Bheki Ndlovu, 38, who were remanded in custody for the murder of Dr Nicholas Procter. The three suspects were traced by police and arrested in Protea Glen, Soweto, on February 5, and subsequently charged with the brutal and horrendous crime.
