Kiepersol Community Centre hosts annual fete

Published

The community centre, Kiepersol, recently held its annual kermis fundraising event in Eldoraigne this past weekend. This event serves as a crucial fundraiser for the centre, which caters to the elderly within the community. Vendors from the surrounding area gathered at Kiepersol to showcase their products and food offerings.

Isabel Nel, the manager of the Kiepersol Community Centre, expressed gratitude towards the volunteers and stall operators who participated in the event. She emphasized the significance of fundraisers like the kermis in sustaining the centre’s operations.

Nel highlighted the importance of fundraising for the centre’s sustainability, stating, “Without this funding, Kiepersol won’t be able to operate because we do not get any subsidies, so we have to fundraise ourselves. We have a second-hand shop, the fete and the weekly services we offer for the elderly.”

Offering a variety of activities such as exercise, brain exercises, meals, entertainment, live music, games, a library, bible study, and a hairdresser, Kiepersol has amassed over 200 members since its establishment 30 years ago. The annual kermis has become a tradition for the centre.

Nel underscored the profound impact of the centre on its elderly members, noting that many rely on the services due to financial constraints and loneliness. She acknowledged the active participation of elderly volunteers, with some individuals in their late 80s still contributing to the centre’s activities.
