Kendrick Lamar, the Pulitzer Prize-winning rapper, is set to return to South Africa nearly a decade after his last visit. Back then, he was a rising star gaining international recognition with his critically acclaimed debut album, “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.”

This time, Lamar will return as one of the world’s biggest musicians, joining the impressive lineup of the Hey Neighbour Festival as reported by IOL. The festival, scheduled from December 8 to 10, already boasts renowned artists such as H.E.R, Khalid, The Chainsmokers, and Swedish House Mafia.

Describing Lamar as a “Multi-Grammy-winning artist, Pulitzer Prize recipient, cultural icon, and living legend,” the festival organisers took to Twitter to announce his participation and urged fans to secure their tickets through Ticketpro.

During his previous visit in March 2014, Lamar performed live in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. After this trip, he released his acclaimed album, “To Pimp a Butterfly,” which featured the poignant track “How Much A Dollar Cost.” In the song, Lamar shared a personal encounter with a homeless man at a petrol station who asked him for R10 (approximately $1 at the time). Initially hesitant, Lamar eventually felt guilt and sympathy towards the man, realising the impact of his success and the importance of generosity.

Currently on his world tour, known as “The Big Steppers Tour,” Lamar has achieved significant success, surpassing $100 million in total revenue, making it the highest-grossing rap tour ever.

To cap off another remarkable year, Lamar recently won the BET Award for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, marking his record-breaking sixth win in this category.

With anticipation building for his return, Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming performance in South Africa promises to be a meaningful event, celebrating his unrivalled greatness and artistic legacy.
