The new smart meters will be rolled out next Monday in areas like Cosmo City, Orlando East and West, Diepkloof, and Orange Farm as reported by Eyewitness News. With this new system, customers can purchase water credits and pay for their individual consumption, moving away from the average billing method. This change aims to prevent some households from being billed more than their water usage.
According to Joburg Water’s Nombuso Shabalala, the rollout will begin on Monday, July 31, in Cosmo City, with plans to expand the project to other regions later on. JHB Water urges customers to grant their teams access to their properties for the necessary meter pairing to ensure a smooth process.
This smart meter option is expected to empower residents with greater control over their water expenses and contribute to a more efficient water usage management system in Johannesburg.
