Joburg Highway Assault Victims Identified as Members of SANDF
The Joburg highway assault victims are SANDF members, according to the South African National Defence Union, triggering a wave of outrage over the actions of some members of the Deputy President’s VIP Protection Unit. eNCA reported on Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo sharing insights into the incident.
The union reveals that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has already interviewed the victims and advised them against engaging with the police during the ongoing investigation.
The disturbing footage captured the VIP protection officers assaulting the civilians on the N1 in Johannesburg, despite the absence of the deputy president.
The South African National Defence Union expresses its willingness to support the victims should they decide to pursue criminal charges.
While strongly condemning police brutality, the union emphasises allowing IPID sufficient time to conclude its investigation.
