Published

City of Johannesburg and City Power take action against scrapyards dealing in stolen copper cables and infrastructure. MMC for Environment and Infrastructure, Jack Sekwaila, vows to recover the stolen property but has not revealed when the scrapyards will be raided as reported by News 24.

The theft of cables, mini-substations, and other infrastructure has resulted in the loss of up to three mini-substations daily, costing City Power approximately R3 million in expenses.

The City is losing around R4 billion annually due to theft, technical and non-technical losses, and vandalism.

Plans are in place to address the issue, including implementing vetting measures and holding contractors accountable for any misconduct.
