The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has expressed its appreciation for the generous act of Officer Thembelihle Harrison Mkosi, who purchased school shoes for a financially disadvantaged student.

Xolani Fihla, a spokesperson for the JMPD, commended Mkosi, stating that he was deeply moved after encountering the student while on duty on Monday. The following day, he returned with a new pair of school shoes for her as reported by the IOL.

“The 34-year-old officer Mkosi had come across the 8-year-old student on Monday, 22nd May 2023, at the intersection of Von Wielligh and Pritchard Street in Johannesburg’s CBD, where he was deployed to manage morning traffic,” explained Fihla.

“Upon noticing the poor condition of the girl’s school shoes and engaging in conversation with her, he became aware of her difficult circumstances. Subsequently, he inquired about her shoe size and the school she attended.”

The next day, Officer Mkosi visited the girl’s school and presented her with the new pair of shoes he had purchased.

Fihla shared that Mkosi recounted the girl’s excitement upon seeing him. She was delighted not only because she had missed seeing him earlier that morning, as he was typically stationed for traffic control, but also because of the brand-new school shoes he had gifted her.

Mkosi, a father of two boys, expressed that he didn’t hesitate to assist the girl.

“I acted without a second thought; I was overcome with a strong urge to help the young girl,” he said.

Acting Chief of the Joburg Metro Police Department, Angie Mokasi praised Mkosi for his proactive approach.

“Acts of kindness like the one demonstrated by Officer Mkosi are not something that can be taught; they come from a place of genuine compassion, and that is truly commendable,” Mokasi stated.

Numerous Twitter users joined in applauding Mkosi for his kind-heartedness.

Themba Nobela Msane commented on the JMPD’s post, saying, “May the good God bless you more, Bab’u Mkosi.”

Another user, @zandi_thusi, reacted by saying, “Well done, Officer. God bless you.”

BafanaBz Manana had a prayer for Mkosi, “May God bless him with more financial abundance.”
