JMPD Anticipates Heavy Traffic

As the Easter long weekend comes to an end, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) is anticipating a surge in traffic as holidaymakers begin their journey back home, as reported by EWN.

According to Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the department, although the roads were relatively calm over the weekend, the authorities are anticipating high volumes of motorists on Monday. The JMPD has reported five fatal accidents during the holiday period, with four of them involving pedestrians.

“It shows that motorists are at least heeding to the call but the serious concern then comes with pedestrians who are not crossing the road safely and not taking necessary precautions to ensure they are safer on the road.”
