The issue of feminine hygiene is gaining increasing attention as more individuals commit to being beacons of hope for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Leading the way in addressing this issue are the Imbumba Foundation and its Caring4Girls initiative, which not only provides much-needed relief to schoolgirls but also raises awareness about menstrual health as reported by IOL.

The foundation empowers these girls to pursue their education without the burden of hygiene risks, discomfort, embarrassment, or loss of dignity by empowering them to reach their full potential.

One remarkable outcome of this initiative is the creation of Trek4Mandela, an annual expedition to Africa’s tallest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. This inspiring journey aims to raise funds for sanitary pads, benefiting African schoolgirls who cannot afford them.

As the initiative has gained momentum over the years, more notable figures have joined the cause, contributing to the awareness campaign’s growth.

One such supporter is Sarah Güsten-Marr, an international artist and humanitarian known for her dedication to addressing social issues. Moved by her passion, Güsten-Marr composed a heartfelt song called “Letter2Mandela,” paying tribute to Nelson Mandela and his extraordinary legacy.

In her own words, Güsten-Marr expressed, “We are women, an undeniable force on this earth. The very existence of men and women stems from the cycle bestowed upon us by God—the menstrual cycle. Girls should never feel ashamed; they become mothers. I had the privilege of meeting Richard, and I find it absolutely extraordinary that a man created the Imbumba Foundation. A man who respects women enough to climb Kilimanjaro, raising funds for our global women’s issues. I wanted to support this man and his cause.”

When asked about her inspiration for the song, Güsten-Marr revealed her admiration for Mandela, who, despite enduring oppression, chose to champion peace.

“As a mother to an almost 23-year-old and a 19-year-old, I consider it a blessing that they were born during Madiba’s lifetime. Nelson Mandela has taught us a profound lesson. Despite emerging from prison, he chose not to ignite the fire of hatred, and that is something people often fail to grasp,” she explained.

The song’s launch, held at the illustrious Sanctuary Mandela, attracted a multitude of notable personalities, including Miss SA Ndavi Nokeri, actor Clement Maosa, and popular music star PD Joke, who united in celebration.

Maosa, a longstanding advocate of the campaign, emphasised the campaign’s fundamental purpose.

Expressing his elation at the initiative’s growth and impact over the past few years, the founder of the Imbumba Foundation conveyed a sense of pride and optimism for the future.

The conversation surrounding feminine hygiene continues to evolve, and with the Imbumba Foundation leading the charge, more girls are receiving the support they need to thrive, while notable individuals lend their voices to raise awareness and make a positive change.
