Human Settlements Dept Issues Warning on Facebook Scam
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements has alerted residents regarding a fake Facebook account operating under its name. The Facebook scam is designed to deceive unsuspecting individuals by soliciting payment for a title deed purportedly related to their property.
Residents should direct all housing-related inquiries to official government centres within the province. The department emphasises the importance of reporting any criminal activities or instances of corruption related to government housing through the Gauteng hotline at 0860 428 8364.

Castro Ngobese, the spokesperson for the department, clarified that the fraudulent Facebook account is not affiliated with the department. It is the work of dishonest individuals engaging in corrupt practices. Ngobese stated, “We have reported many of these fake accounts to relevant law enforcement agencies so that those responsible can face the wrath of the law.”
Ngobese assured residents that the department would communicate with those awaiting their title deeds to provide official instructions on when and how to collect them. Highlighting previous attempts by criminals to exploit residents, Ngobese mentioned the distribution of misleading materials via social media platforms.
It was disclosed that the department collaborates with law enforcement agencies and conducts awareness initiatives to educate and alert residents about potential scams.
