Hildegard Steenkamp was motivated by greed

The state prosecutor said that Hildegard Steenkamp was motivated by greed as she faced over 300 counts of theft and was found guilty of stealing R500 million from her employer over 13 years. The report by eNCA says Advocate Tilas Chabalala, the state attorney, argues that Steenkamp lacks genuine remorse for her actions, asserting that her apparent regret is merely a result of being apprehended and primarily concerned with herself.

Chabalala emphasised, “I respectfully submit that the accused is not remorseful at all. Many accused persons may well regret their conduct, but that without remorse does not translate to genuine remorse. Whether that offender is sincerely remorseful or simply feeling sorry for being caught is a factual question, the strength of the case against the accused, remember they have pled guilty on the charges.

“It is respectfully submitted that the accused did not show genuine contrition. It is very clear that she was motivated by greed.”
