Ekurhuleni: Hijacked Volkswagen Polo Stripped Bare Within Two Days at Local Residence

In a swift operation, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) tactical response unit apprehended a 40-year-old man for possession of a hijacked Volkswagen Polo in the Etwatwa area, according to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the EMPD. IOL reports that the arrest occurred when the suspect stripped the hijacked Volkswagen Polo at a house on Reuben Street. The hijacked Volkswagen Polo was traced to the Emaphupheni section of Etwatwa after the EMPD officers received information about the stolen vehicle. Officers found the silver VW Polo hatchback to have been hijacked on Mabaso Street in Daveyton on Saturday night. Despite the arrest, the detained suspect claims innocence, asserting that an unknown individual asked him to strip the vehicle. The suspect is held at the Etwatwa police station. At the same time, the hijacked Volkswagen Polo at the Aeroton police yard.

Earlier this month, the country was shocked by the fatal shooting of Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs during a hijacking incident on 14th Avenue in Honeydew, Joburg. In response, Gauteng provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, deployed a special SA Police Service (SAPS) task team to apprehend the perpetrators. Six suspects linked to the murder case appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court, identified as Ndumiso Moswane, Fernando Sive, Nhlakanipho Dlamini, Franky Xaba, Maredi Mphahlele, and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu. The syndicate members were arrested in Slovoville, Soweto, and Fleurs’ hijacked Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI was discovered stripped. The accused individuals, represented by Legal Aid, are scheduled to apply for bail during their upcoming court appearance.
