Tshwane metro police officers were involved in a high-speed chase on Tuesday evening that resulted in the arrest of two men. The incident occurred in the eastern part of Pretoria at approximately 10 pm on May 16, 2023.

“While patrolling in Lynwood Road, TMPD officers spotted a suspicious Honda vehicle with three men inside,” said metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

“They tried to stop the vehicle, but it sped off. The officers then gave chase and called for more backup.”

“The officers managed to catch up to the vehicle in Nellmapius near Solomon Mahlangu Drive.”

According to reports, one of the suspects produced a firearm during the pursuit, but the officers responded with gunfire of their own, injuring the suspect.

The wounded individual was transported to a local hospital under police custody. Regrettably, the third suspect was able to evade arrest. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle in question had been reported stolen.

“Their vehicle was searched and the officers found housebreaking equipment,” said Mahamba.

This incident is only the latest in a string of recent high-speed chases and armed confrontations on Pretoria’s roads.
