SHOCKING: High Court exposes Tshwane mayor’s fake certificate

Tshwane Mayor Dr Murunwa Makwarela is under investigation after submitting a fake rehabilitation certificate. This week, he was disqualified as a councillor when studies revealed that he was declared insolvent in 2016. As reported by SowetanLIVE, Makwarela attempted to submit proof of rehabilitation to city manager Johann Mettler on the deadline. Still, the Office of the Chief Justice deemed the certificate fake on Friday.

According to Tumelo Ledwaba, the Chief Registrar of the Gauteng High Court, the court never issued the certificate presented by Makwarela. “I am referring this matter to the office of the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations for … criminal proceedings,” he said.

In response, the multi-party coalition in Tshwane, including the DA, ActionSA, FF+, IFP, and the ACDP, announced they would open a case at the Brooklyn police station. Makwarela’s profile as mayor of Tshwane has since been removed from the municipality’s website.
