Hassan Kajee charged the state R34.4 million

Johannesburg advocate Hassan Kajee charged the state R34.4 million in legal fees for a case defending the minister of police against a damages claim. According to IOL, the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg has removed him from the roll.

The High Court, responding to numerous scathing judgments against Kajee, deemed him unfit to hold the office of an advocate. The Johannesburg Society of Advocates initiated the application, leading to his suspension and subsequent disbarment due to his dishonest conduct.

A previous court ruling shed light on deceitful, corrupt, and fraudulent dealings between Kajee and the state attorney, involving exorbitant fees and undisclosed settlements. The recent judgment emphasized the questionable conduct of Kajee and the former head of the state attorney’s office, Kgosi Gustav Lekabe, who conspired to settle a damages claim without the minister’s knowledge.

Kajee’s exorbitant invoicing, amounting to millions of rands, raised eyebrows, prompting the court to protect the public and justice system from his dishonest practices.
