According to Dennis Tsholetsane, the station manager for Gauteng Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Randfontein, the bus driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle after hitting a pothole. The driver miraculously emerged from the crash unharmed. At the same time, EMS staff transported the injured learners to various regional hospitals.

Upon arriving at the scene, Tsholetsane reported that one learner was slightly critical. However, the remaining nine were in moderate condition. The incident shocked the school’s directors, including James Harod, who was called to the scene. Speaking about the incident, Harod expressed uncertainty about the events leading up to the crash, revealing that they received a call informing them of the accident as the driver was transporting the learners home.
