In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old investigating officer employed by Gold One Mine in Modder East, Springs, was shot and killed while driving with his family. The incident occurred on Outeniqua Road, near the mine, as the victim was commuting from his residence in a silver Mercedes-Benz with his wife and two sons.

According to Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the Springs SAPS spokesperson, the shooting transpired as the family approached speed humps. Shots were allegedly fired at their vehicle, leading to the investigating officer sustaining head injuries. Despite being able to stop the car at a nearby house, the victim, bleeding from his mouth, ran into the yard.

His wife followed him and discovered him unconscious and bleeding. Tragically, the 55-year-old investigating officer was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.

Sergeant Tshabalala revealed that the shooters, driving a black BMW with no registration, also targeted bystanders outside a nearby house. One person sustained injuries and was promptly taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The Springs SAPS is actively investigating the case as a murder. No arrests have been made at this point.
