The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that the closing date for online admissions applications for Grade One and Grade Eight for the 2024 academic year has been extended to July 21st. Initially set to close on July 14th, the extension comes in response to parents’ preference for submitting their documents at schools.

Steve Mabona, the spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Education, explained that the extension will allow parents to submit their documents after the school recess, which will be in effect from June 23rd until July 17th.

Parents now have until July 21st to apply online and be permitted to upload or submit documents by July 28th. The online admissions system has already processed an impressive number of applications, with over 400,000 applications received since the application period began on June 15th. Of these applications, 176,975 are for Grade One and 231,739 are for Grade Eight, as of June 22nd.
