From England to Parkmore with style – Meet Tallulah Hodge

Tallulah, the English-born cross-breed between a toy Maltese and a golden poodle, may be rare in South Africa, but at least she’s not alone.

The opportunity to interact with the five-year-old Maltipoo felt like meeting with a royal canine, as Tallulah regally led the Hodge family towards the entrance to the Milk Bar market on July 28.

Lauren and her husband Charles Hodge took a moment to share their adorable companion with a journalist.

“I’m South African-American, and my husband is British. We lived in the UK for 12 and a half years,” Lauren explained. “We then decided to move back, and we brought our lovely English Tallulah.”

Tallulah has been a member of the Hodge family since just before Covid-19 devastated the world.

“We’d been with Tallulah for eight weeks before lockdown,” Charles said.

It was hardly much of a shock to realise what a refined palate, and wardrobe Tallulah owns, given how far-travelled she is for her age.

“Salmon and eggs is her favourite treat, and she drinks tea in the morning, maybe a touch of coffee when I have my morning cup,” Lauren shared with a kind laugh.
“Of course she wears clothes. She has a little purple jacket hoodie that we bought locally, a Burberry coat from a company called Cape Town Dogs from years ago, and she has a little rain jacket that we bought in England.

“It’s obviously not that cold here, so she’s only worn them a few times this winter season.”
