Fostering a New Generation of Innovators and Solvers of Challenges

Hyde Park High School recently hosted a captivating Robotics Expo and Technology Olympiad, celebrating innovation and the creative prowess of young minds in the realm of technology. This event united students from various districts and provided a glimpse into the exciting future of robotics and engineering.

Avril Wright, the school’s communication secretary, described the expo as a bustling hub of activity, featuring numerous exhibitors showcasing an impressive array of robotic creations and kits. The event illustrated the boundless possibilities of technology, ranging from high-resolution data projectors and precision camera-equipped visualisers to Google AI and programming software.

A standout component of the expo was the Technology Olympiad, where learners engaged in a thrilling competition, tackling a series of challenging questions in the final round. The electrifying atmosphere witnessed students racing against the clock for top honours.

Notably, the event hosted guest speakers from the technology industry who shared their valuable experiences and insights into the realms of robotics and AI. Additionally, Education Department officials were in attendance, inspiring learners with a profound emphasis on the significance of innovation in today’s world.

Wright expressed gratitude for the computer labs that accommodated the Olympiad and highlighted a generous donation of a multipurpose presentation device worth R66,000 from Compute in collaboration with Epson and Highsense. This device will enhance teaching computer-aided design in the EGD venue.
