Assisting ‘Missing-Middle’ Students

The raffle specifically targeted those who struggle to afford higher education.

Significant Fundraising Success

The raffle raised an impressive amount of over R475,000 to help students facing financial difficulties. June Petersen was the lucky winner, receiving the classic 1967 Volkswagen Beetle previously owned by former Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof CH Rautenbach.

UP’s Commitment to Uplifting the Community

According to UP spokesperson Sashlin Girraj, this year’s raffle has been a significant highlight of the campaign. The VW Beetle symbolizes UP’s rich history and commitment to uplifting the community. The raffle’s success greatly contributed to the university’s fundraising efforts.

  • 9,574 raffle tickets were sold
  • A remarkable R475,462 was raised

Progress Towards Fundraising Goal

Girraj mentioned that the campaign, initiated three years ago with the goal of raising R100 million by 2024, has made substantial progress. The funds raised through the Giving campaign have already supported over 400 students and various strategic projects at the university.
