Former Miss SA Marilyn Ramos: Her Current Whereabouts

Marilyn Ramos, formerly known as Marilyn Mahoney, has intentionally stayed away from the limelight since her Miss South Africa (Miss SA) victory in 2012, possibly in response to the harsh criticisms she faced as reported by SA People News.

During her reign, various media outlets labelled her the “worst Miss South Africa ever,” but Ramos herself attributes this negative perception to a lack of support from the pageant organisers.

In 2014, she took to social media to address the assumptions surrounding her role as Miss SA. In a bold media statement, she made several noteworthy allegations against the pageant:

  • She claimed that she did not receive public relations support from the pageant, resulting in her community and charity work going unnoticed.
  • Ramos organised her outreach work in a personal capacity.
  • She had to personally finance all her gowns, including the 90 outfits required for Miss World and Miss Universe.
  • The international pageants burdened her with an excess luggage bill amounting to R23,000.
  • Contrary to tradition, no one from the Miss SA organisation bid her farewell at OR Tambo airport before the international competitions.
  • She was left without a representative from the pageant at the international events.
  • Ramos also retaliated against comments suggesting she was the only Miss SA contestant not to place at international pageants.

Despite her difficulties, Marilyn asserted that she refused to let them hinder her progress. In her own words from the statement: “Don’t get me wrong, even though I wouldn’t change anything from the year of me wearing the crown, I would be lying if I said everything came easy. More often than not, I was presented with major obstacles that I had to overcome myself.”

As for her current whereabouts and activities, some updates about Marilyn Ramos include her marriage to Louwrens Mahoney in 2019 and the birth of their son Seth in 2021.

Based on her LinkedIn page, she now owns a business called M2 Mahoney Media and has pursued a career as an image consultant following her reign.

Additionally, Marilyn has maintained strong friendships with fellow former Miss SA winners, including Tansey Coetzee and Liesl Laurie, highlighting the lasting connections within the beauty pageant community.
