Ford engines worth over R1 million

Ford engines worth over R1 million are still missing since their theft in July, despite the arrests of several suspects in connection with the heist. The stolen engines have not been recovered, according to spokesperson Captain Bonnie Nxumalo. The theft occurred at a Ford company in Pretoria. The investigation remains ongoing. Four suspects were arrested shortly after the heist. They included two Ford security personnel, a mechanical repair shop owner, and a truck driver. The case had a court appearance on October 11. Nxumalo added that the Hawks may arrest more suspects as the investigation continues.

In July, the initial arrests occurred when officers found the stolen property in possession of four individuals. These individuals, aged between 29 and 44, including the two Ford security personnel, a mechanical repair shop owner, and a truck driver, were arrested. However, the stolen engines, valued at R1.1 million, are yet to be located. The investigation was launched following a complaint from Ford, suspecting a potential theft of engines from its plant. The Hawks, specialising in serious organised crime investigations, later made arrests. A courier company’s truck was used to transport racks containing around 36 engines from the Ford premises, which successfully exited without following proper procedure. The investigation led to the recovery of the racks and a forklift on a property in Eersterust. Nevertheless, the engines remain unaccounted for.

The Ford plant, situated on the outskirts of Silverton, specialises in producing midsize trucks.
