Flying Squad Nabs 3 Suspects Recovers Stolen Vehicles and Seizes Firearm

Between September 18 and 25, members of the Benoni Flying Squad made significant arrests and recoveries. Three suspects were apprehended for drug possession at different locations in Kempton Park and Thembisa, with seizures including Nyaope, cocaine, and crystal methamphetamine.

On September 25, while patrolling Benoni, officers were alerted by a security vehicle near Bunyan Road and the N12 highway. The security guard reported seeing two suspects fleeing into the bushes, dropping something in the process. Upon investigation, a 9mm Girsan pistol with two live rounds was discovered in the grass. The firearm was confiscated and handed over to Benoni SAPS for further investigation.

The team also recovered five abandoned and stolen motor vehicles:

  • White GWM bakkie – recovered in Spartan Road, Kempton Park, previously reported hijacked in a Klipgat case.
  • White Isuzu – recovered at Mayfield Square Mall in Putfontein, previously reported hijacked in a Silverton case.
  • White Ford Ranger – recovered on Atlas Road in Boksburg, previously reported stolen in a Germiston case.
  • White Toyota Etios – recovered at Elridge Mall in Impala Park, previously reported stolen in a Sinoville case.
  • White Volkswagen Polo – recovered on Daveyton Road, Cloverdene, previously reported stolen in a Tsakane case.

Investigations are ongoing in all these cases. The suspects will face charges related to drug possession and dealing in the Kempton Park and Thembisa magistrate’s courts.
