Faulty cable causes widespread blackout in Pretoria east

A widespread power outage has impacted multiple areas in Pretoria East, leaving residents without electricity since 23:39 last night. The affected areas include Lombardy, Mooiplaats, Shere, Tygervalley, Olympus, Equestria, and Faerie Glen.

According to Ward 101 councillor Malcolm De Klerk, the outage was triggered by a faulty cable in Olympus, which caused the 132kV transformer in Wapadrand to trip. Repair teams are currently engaged in restoring power, and most areas are anticipated to have their supply reinstated within hours.

“However, parts of Olympus are facing an extended blackout of 10-12 hours due to necessary cable repairs,” stated De Klerk.

De Klerk also mentioned that further updates regarding the situation will be provided in due course. Residents are advised to remain patient and take necessary precautions during the outage.
