Fatal shooting of taxi owner in Alexandra

The South African Police Service in Gauteng has initiated a search for individuals who fatally shot a taxi proprietor in Alexandra, located in the north of Johannesburg. On Thursday morning, a 66-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting on his way to a local taxi rank in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, as reported by Jacaranda FM.

Police spokesperson Dimakatso Sello stated that the armed suspects attacked the victim, shooting him multiple times.

He was then taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Motlanalo Tsebe, the spokesperson for Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, and Sandton Taxi Association (Armsta), confirmed that the deceased was a member of their organisation. The Gauteng police have initiated a manhunt for the suspects.

Expressing the association’s condolences, Tsebe stated, “This morning we received news that one of our members was shot and killed shortly after leaving his home at 11th Avenue, Alexandra. As the executive, we are deeply saddened by the incident and wish that the suspects can be arrested.”

The motive for the attack is yet to be determined and the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. No arrests have been made so far.
