Three hundred and eight local learners, nine from Lesotho, India, Russia, and Mexico, along with nine young scientists from Turkey, Ghana, Mozambique, Kenya, and Ireland, are set to exhibit their research and engineering projects at the Emperors Palace Convention Centre.

The Eskom Expo International Science 2024 is scheduled to take place from September 23 to 27 at the convention centre, promising an exciting showcase of talent and innovation.

These talented individuals will be competing for prestigious recognition and the chance to win life-changing rewards, including six full bursaries sponsored by the University of Pretoria, Babcock, and Siemens Energy.

Wits University and the Alfeco Foundation are also contributing by providing partial bursaries, with the total value of these bursaries amounting to nearly R3.7 million.

Mologadi Motshele, the acting CEO of the Eskom Development Foundation, reiterated Eskom’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators and scientists.

“The Eskom Expo continues to be a crucial platform for empowering the future innovators and scientists. The innovative solutions presented by the learners will directly tackle and resolve many of the challenges our country faces, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future,” said Motshele.

Parthy Chetty, the expo’s executive director, highlighted the remarkable increase in female participation in STEMI (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Innovation) education.

“This positive trend signals an exciting shift towards a more inclusive future in these critical fields, where innovation and progress transcend gender boundaries,” Chetty remarked.
