Explosion leads to another widespread outage in Kempton Park

Investigations are ongoing into a power outage affecting various areas in Kempton Park, according to Ward 16 Councillor Jaco Terblanche. The affected areas include Esselen Park, Kempton Park West, Birchleigh, Birch Acres, Bredell, Pomona, Brentwood Park, Nimrod Park, Bonaero Park, Terenure, Edleen, Glen Marais, Allen Grove, Rietfontein and surrounding.

According to Kempton Express, a team was on site last night to assess the extent and cause of the fault. However, an estimated time for power restoration has yet to be available.

Councillor Terblanche revealed an explosion on the 88/66/11kV auto transformer bushings, causing the transformer to be out of service. He added that officials would inspect the 88kV line and route for irregularities.

First, the inspections and other electrical tests should be completed. In that case, power should be back up at Esselen Park, Kaalfontein, and parts of Witfontein at 14:00. They restored The Aston Manor, Bonaero Park, Nimrod Park, Glen Marais, Van Riebeeck Park, Nokem Park, Allen Grove, Birch Acres, Witfontein, Terenure, Edleen, Kembirch, and Kempton Park West areas, but the HV apparatus tripped.

“The cause of the fault trip will be investigated this morning,” he said. The next update for power restoration will occur at 13:00.
