Cable theft and vandalism have been identified as the key reasons for the electricity outage in parts of Westonaria.

According to Phillip Montsiwa, the spokesperson for Rand West City Local Municipality, Eskom had to implement a planned power shutdown on July 26 from 10:00 to 16:00 to conduct repairs on the Mars substation. The damages resulted from criminal acts of cable theft and vandalism.

Montsiwa stated that these criminal activities caused a technical problem for Eskom, leading to the necessity of the power shutdown to carry out the essential repairs. He also extended apologies for any inconvenience caused by the shutdown.

It is highlighted that cable theft and vandalism are responsible for significant electrical issues, including power supply disruptions and the potential for expensive repairs.

The areas affected by the shutdown include Westonaria Borwa, Venterspost, and Lucky Farms.
