EThekwini tariff hike angers community

The Phoenix Civic Movement (PCM) criticized the eThekwini Municipality’s proposed tariff increases as the highest in the country as reported by IOL.

PCM leader Vivian Pillay demanded a moratorium on the increases until constituency-based meetings are held.

Pillay claimed that the municipality had no political will to end the culture of non-payment and called for all outstanding arrears to be written off.

The proposed increases for various services were tabled in the draft budget, which is now out for public comment.

Municipality spokesperson Lindiwe Khuzwayo encouraged citizens and stakeholders to share their views during the public consultation before the budget approval in May/June.
