The operation focused on the central business district (CBD), where scooter riders’ paperwork was thoroughly examined during stop-and-search checkpoints.

Offending riders were issued written notices throughout the operation, and outstanding traffic fines were carefully reviewed. Several unroadworthy scooters were identified, taken out of circulation, and impounded.

These impounded scooters have been secured at the EMPD Kempton Park precinct.

According to EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Kelebogile Thepa, this operation is part of an ongoing effort that will continue beyond Transport Month.

“The inspection and management of defective delivery scooters on our public roads are being carried out in and around the City of Ekurhuleni,” she stated.
