EMPD has warned against damaging traffic signs

The EMPD has warned against damaging traffic signs, emphasising the critical importance of these elements for road safety and accident prevention. Such acts imperil all road users’ security and directly correlate with the number of accidents and fatalities on public roads.

With increasing instances of purposeful damage and vandalism of traffic signs in and around the CoE (City of Ekurhuleni), the EMPD is deeply concerned about the potentially life-threatening consequences of such actions. Criminals reportedly steal steel signs to sell them at metal scrapyards, exacerbating the issue.

The EMPD’s warning comes amidst heightened challenges caused by load-shedding, which leads to collisions and traffic delays due to the theft of these crucial signs. In light of these concerns, the EMPD urges community members to collaborate with law enforcement to apprehend those responsible for damaging traffic signs.
