Local emergency services responded to a significant mountain fire that posed a threat to properties in Sinoville and Pretoria North over the past weekend. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries during the fire that occurred from September 27 to 28.

Sinoville Fire Fighters Association (SFFA) founder Johan Botha mentioned that the organization quickly mobilized upon receiving a request for assistance to contain the extensive fire in the mountainous areas around Sinoville and Pretoria North. The volunteer firefighters promptly arrived at the scene around 17:30 on Friday.

Although no injuries were reported, the fire approached buildings, resulting in one house losing its thatch roof. Botha stated that the team dedicated over 12 hours to managing and controlling the fire.

The combined efforts of the volunteer firefighters and the Fire Department persisted in battling the blaze through the early hours of the morning.

“On Friday and Saturday, our committed teams were actively engaged in combating fires in the Magalies Mountains. We worked tirelessly to protect our community’s residences from the flames and monitor the mountainous situation. Unexpectedly, a sudden storm with strong winds presented an additional challenge during our operations.”

By morning, the site was cleared, and the association emphasized the importance of exercising caution when dealing with fires.

“The incident involving the damaged thatch roof serves as a reminder to residents to remain calm and avoid hasty actions during fire emergencies to prevent potential property loss.”

Appreciation was extended to all individuals involved in containing the fire, along with community members who generously provided food to the team in the mountains.
