The electrician who was shot is recovering well, as an outpouring of well-wishes continues to reach him. Dewaal Smit of Comet and a female colleague were working to locate a fault that had caused power outages in several areas of Boksburg. An armed robber shot Smit, disarmed him, and stole his cell phone and wallet. The bullet passed through his body, narrowly missing his lung. Smit’s colleague quickly alerted management and the police, who promptly responded to the scene. Paramedics transported Smit to Linmed Hospital in Benoni before transferring him to a facility in Johannesburg for further treatment of his gunshot wound.

The authorities treat this crime as a case of armed robbery and attempted murder. But no suspects have been arrested yet. Smit, a valued member of the CPF, has been commended by Boksburg North CPF chairperson Mark Gilpin for his dedication and assistance in resolving electricity issues in the area. Gilpin expressed wishes for Smit’s speedy recovery, acknowledging that although he is still in pain, he is progressing well. Ward 22 Clr Madelaine Muller strongly condemned the act of violence, highlighting Smit’s commitment to his job and the restoration of electricity. Muller received numerous messages expressing support, echoing the sentiment that such incidents should never occur.

Muller further stressed the need to end these heinous acts against residents and essential service providers, calling for collective efforts to ensure the safety of those who serve the community.
