Sivuyile Ngodwana, the newly elected Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, has pledged to rebuild trust between residents and the political leadership in the metro. Ngodwana, from the African Independent Congress, was elected mayor with the support of a multiparty coalition government led by the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) following a vote of no confidence against the previous mayor, Tania Campbell as reported by Eyewitness News.

Ngodwana plans to improve service delivery and communication with the people to address their concerns.

Panyaza Lesufi, the ANC Gauteng chairperson, denied allegations that the ANC controls puppet mayors and called for dismissing such notions.
