Gone are the days of enduring long, frustrating queues. Now, customers can effortlessly access the department’s website, registering and activating their profiles with a simple click through an email link or SMS. This newfound digital accessibility has revolutionized the licensing experience.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the EMPD, elaborates on the benefits of this innovative approach. Notably, pensioners no longer need to schedule appointments to renew their driver’s licenses. Instead, they can visit any City of Ekurhuleni testing centre on Wednesdays, where they receive priority service. Meanwhile, students can conveniently book appointments for Saturdays, ensuring that their educational commitments remain unaffected.

To expedite the renewal process, customers are encouraged to utilise the licensing drive-through facilities, promising swift service. All that’s required is their SMS, renewal notice, green form, and a certified copy of their driver’s license or identification card. The efficiency of these drive-through facilities ensures that the entire process typically takes 15 minutes or less.

For the convenience of residents, licensing drive-through facilities are strategically located in Springs, Kwa-Thema, Thembisa, and Bedfordview. Additionally, satellite facilities, operating from 08:00 to 15:00, are available in Etwatwa and Tsakane for those seeking learner’s licenses.

With this innovative online system and accessible drive-through facilities, the Ekurhuleni Licensing Department is committed to providing a hassle-free experience, empowering customers to complete their licensing needs swiftly and conveniently.
