Eden Laird kidnappers appeal prison sentence

The Eden Laird kidnappers are appealing their 15-year sentence. Nelisani Gabela and Cleopatra Manjankozi appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on September 12 to file an appeal application against their prison sentence.

Eden went missing on May 2, 2018, after the domestic worker, Manjankozi, left with the toddler for a stroll from Eden’s home in Brackendowns and did not return. The Laird family, desperate for their child’s return, paid a ransom of R125,000 to the abductors, who initially demanded R6 million.

Eden was safely recovered on May 5, 2018, thanks to a police sting operation in Windmill Park near Boksburg. Gabela and Manjankozi first appeared in court on May 7, 2018.

The appeal hearing has been postponed to October 3, allowing Nelisani’s attorney time to acquire a mandate from their firm to proceed with the matter.
