Chikunga Sets Official Date and Time for Scrapping of E-Tolls in Gauteng
Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga confirmed on Wednesday that e-tolls in Gauteng will finally be shut down by Thursday at midnight. According to EWN, she declared that no toll charges would be extended to road users plying the Gauteng e-toll routes.

Chikunga revealed that the gantries will not be removed but used for crime-fighting initiatives. In 2013, SANRAL initiated the e-toll system to satisfy its debt-servicing needs, which followed the Gauteng freeway upgrading project.
It has been an absolute mess for the motorists from the province.
