Clapham High School and Jabulile Secondary School defended their crowns in the Gauteng Schools Wednesday League Champions.

The 2024 Gauteng Schools Wednesday Champions League finals concluded at the Muckleneuk sports grounds in Mamelodi on Wednesday, September 18.

The defending champions, Clapham High School and Jabulile Secondary School, proudly secured the top positions in boys’ and girls’ football, respectively.

This year, the introduction of netball and volleyball leagues brought a new level of excitement to the competition.

The outstanding winners were Moletsane High School from Soweto in netball, Mpilisweni High School from Katlehong in boys’ volleyball, and Lukhanyo High School in Mohlakeng in girls’ volleyball.

It’s worth noting that each winning team received R50,000 worth of attire and sporting equipment for their school.

Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, Matome Chiloane, said it’s a fantastic reward for their hard work and dedication.

In total, 44 school teams competed in the four-round league format competition that began in August.

He said the tournament demonstrates the growing interest and participation in school sports in the province.

“This is an ambitious programme by the province focused on further enhancing the development of school sports in Gauteng,” said Chiloane.

“It is also about ensuring young players perform at a high level, which is crucial in ensuring they reach their potential early on in their development,” he added.
