Young Woman Passes Away Following Assault at Holiday Resort
A tragic death at a holiday resort near Hartbeespoort ruined a couple’s romantic getaway. A 23-year-old woman lost her life in a violent attack. Lizka Nell and her boyfriend, Nicholas Wincento (25), were camping at the Hennopspride Lifestyle Resort when assailants targeted them in a horrifying assault.
As per Kormorant, the couple was inside their tent shortly before midnight when the attackers attempted to open it. Nicholas, reacting swiftly, emerged from the tent and encountered a group of men who shot him in the leg. Lizka screamed inside the tent as the terrifying ordeal unfolded, prompting the assailants to fire indiscriminately through its fabric.
Tragically, Lizka sustained gunshot wounds to her chest, abdomen, and arm in the hail of bullets. Nicholas also took another gunshot wound to his leg, with a bullet grazing his back. The assailants fled the scene, leaving the couple in shock and needing medical attention.
They were rushed to Brits Provincial Hospital, where X-rays revealed no serious injuries. Consequently, the hospital discharged them with antibiotics and pain relievers. However, their ordeal was far from over.

Back at home in Randfontein, Lizka’s condition deteriorated rapidly. She complained of abdominal pain, and her breathing became increasingly difficult. She grew ice-cold, prompting her family to rush her to Lenmed Private Hospital. There, doctors discovered that her condition was grave, and her blood pressure had plummeted. After stabilisation, they transferred her to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital.
However, the delay due to load shedding had already taken a toll. Lizka underwent surgery to repair damage to her colon and small intestines. However, her weakened state posed a significant challenge. Tragically, she passed away in the intensive care unit on Monday morning.
This devastating incident has raised concerns about the initial medical treatment at Brits Provincial Hospital, with the North West Department of Health expected to issue a statement addressing the allegations of negligent care.
Meanwhile, the Hennopspride Lifestyle Resort expressed its regret over the incident and extended condolences to the victims’ families and friends. The resort indicated that the attack might be linked to organised crime in the area, citing recent crimes. It also emphasised its commitment to security, with three permanent guards patrolling the premises.
The police are actively investigating the case involving murder and attempted murder charges. However, there have been no arrests at this time.
