In an effort to tackle illegal dumping and promote cleanliness in Pretoria North, Ward 2 councillor Quentin Meyer has launched an initiative to encourage residents to actively participate in the roll-out of municipal bins.

The initiative is designed to address immediate waste management issues and cultivate a sense of community responsibility and pride in the local environment.

Illegal dumping has emerged as a significant concern in various urban areas, including Pretoria North.

Meyer highlighted that the accumulation of litter not only diminishes the community’s aesthetics but also presents health and environmental risks.

“We have recently completed our fifth bin roll-out, requiring residents to provide a copy of identification and a copy of the water and lights account to receive a new bin,” Meyer stated.

He explained that the municipality has decided to distribute additional waste bins across the community to ensure residents have convenient access to proper disposal options.

Meyer stressed the importance of community engagement in this initiative.

“We cannot address this issue in isolation; we depend on the cooperation of every resident.

“While the bin roll-out represents the initial step, it is crucial for our community to grasp the importance of utilizing them correctly and preserving our environment,” Meyer emphasized.

The councillor urged residents to take responsibility for their local environment by reporting instances of illegal dumping and participating in community cleanup initiatives.

“Through collaborative efforts, we can establish a cleaner, safer, and more attractive Pretoria North for all community members.

Involving our youth is paramount as they are the future stewards of our environment. By engaging them in these endeavors, we instill principles of accountability and care for our community from a young age,” he added.

Meyer also underscored the economic advantages of a cleaner environment.

“A well-maintained and clean neighborhood attracts business and tourism, ultimately fostering job creation and economic progress,” he remarked.

By curbing illegal dumping and enhancing waste management practices, Pretoria North can elevate its appeal and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

Residents are encouraged to support this initiative by effectively utilizing the new bins.
