Confirmation by Pandor: Russian President Vladimir Putin invited to attend Brics summit in South Africa

International Relations Minister, Naledi Pandor, confirmed that Russian President, Vladimir Putin, has been invited to the 15th Brics summit in South Africa in August. This confirmation follows an earlier report this month, stating that the International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued an arrest warrant for Putin, accusing him of war crimes related to the illegal deportation of children from Ukraine as reported by the Time Live.

Pandor acknowledged the ICC warrant and said that South Africa, as a member state, would need to decide how to respond.

However, she expressed concern that powerful countries could escape justice and that this would damage the ICC’s credibility.
