The KwaZulu-Natal transport department has announced plans to complete the Ogunjini/Umvoti River bridge, which started in 2016 but was abandoned in 2019 due to financial constraints. The new contractor, WSM Group, was introduced to the community by KZN transport MEC Sipho Hlomuka as reported by Times Live.

The old low-lying bridge threatened residents during heavy rain, and several deaths have occurred since the project was halted four years ago.

The article also emphasizes the bridge’s significance for both communities and denounces the destruction of infrastructure during service delivery protests.

The project will cost R79m which will take a year to complete.
