Cleanliness takes centre stage in Mamelodi programme
Mamelodi EPWP Clean-Up Program Aims to Restore Dignity and Health
In the past three weeks, Mamelodi has been the focal point for the Expanded Public Workers Programme (EPWP) cleaners, with a primary focus on community cleanliness, particularly at the Mamelodi hostel blocks.
Eddie Mnguni, representing Tshwane Waste Management, emphasized that the EPWP initiative is geared towards maintaining cleanliness in the township, streets, sections, and surrounding areas of Tshwane.
While the EPWP crew diligently worked on cleaning their designated areas, Mnguni expressed disappointment over some hostel dwellers who refrained from participating and instead observed the cleaning efforts passively.
Mnguni underscored the importance of active community involvement in keeping the hostel blocks clean, highlighting the significance of the program in restoring dignity and promoting overall health within the community.
Notably, the EPWP program extends beyond the hostel blocks, focusing on addressing illegal dumping concerns. Community members are encouraged to report illegal dumping hotspots for timely intervention.
Residents and community members are urged to refrain from littering and instead utilize available resources to maintain cleanliness. Mnguni urged communities to participate in city programs like Adopt a Spot or community upliftment initiatives to contribute positively to the environment.
Jack Mathonsi echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the collective responsibility of residents and hostel dwellers in ensuring a clean environment. He stressed the need to address issues such as illegal dumpsites promptly.
In response to community feedback, plans are underway to provide waste bins for hostel dwellers to facilitate proper waste disposal practices.
