City Power Condemns Technician Attacks After 2 Employees Robbed

Two City Power technicians in Johannesburg fell victim to a robbery while performing their duties in Roodepoort on Monday. The female employees were targeted by two assailants travelling in a white vehicle who stole their belongings. City Power’s spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, expressed his concern over the incident and stressed that it was not an isolated case as reported by Eyewitness News.

He cited numerous robberies, including technicians being held at gunpoint, robbed of personal items, laptops, and toolboxes, and even subjected to hijackings resulting in injuries requiring hospitalisation. These continuous attacks hinder the technicians in carrying out their essential work, which includes responding to unplanned outages, performing essential maintenance, and conducting audits, all aimed at ensuring communities have uninterrupted access to electricity.

Mangena emphasised that these attacks are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The safety and security of City Power’s technicians remain a priority to ensure uninterrupted power services for the residents.
