City Power has raised significant concerns regarding the substantial amount of money owed to Johannesburg by various government departments. According to EWN, this concern comes as the utility recently served two prominent hospitals with pre-disconnection notices due to their collective outstanding debt of R32 million.

These healthcare facilities are the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital and the Helen Joseph Hospital, which provide vital services to the community.

Isaac Mangena, the spokesperson for City Power, expressed disappointment in resorting to disconnections, emphasising that it is worrying when government departments are not actively participating in revenue collection efforts. As a result, City Power must take action to ensure the continued delivery of essential services to the community.

The hospitals have a 14-day grace period to address their debts before potential power disconnection.
